Country Rose Farm

Today we went to the most beautiful place. A small rose farm on the Essex and Suffolk border. An abundance of roses in the most enchanting shades of reds, pinks, whites and peach set in the loveliest secluded bit of land. The scent was so sweet and fresh. All the roses are grown in a natural environment without any pesticides and when picked there are carefully worked with a brush to remove any green flies. They weren’t the perfect roses in terms of their stem growth compared to the perfectly straight grown dutch roses, but have often quirky shapes with their heads bent in different directions which makes them even more beautiful, perfect and special for a natural approach of flower arranging. Small buds in vibrant colours turning lighter and softer as the flower opens. The colour game is beautiful to observe.

I’m hoping to find more local growers like this farm as it makes the flowers so much more special. Also seeing how they’re grown and picked is very inspiring, and the thought of using them for a special event. The whole process from start to finish.
